Fibromyalgia & widespread pain · Bhopal

Nobody here will ask you to prove how much pain you're in.

Physiotherapy at home, paced to the week you are actually having. A bad week moves the plan. It doesn't end it , and it doesn't need explaining to someone new each time.

Slow enough to be sustainable

Does this sound familiar?

You've probably had to explain all of this before.

  • Pain that moves around and never entirely leaves.
  • Waking up tired after a full night's sleep.
  • One good day, paid for with three bad ones.
  • Every test comes back normal.
  • Starting again with a new person who wants the whole history.
  • Cancelling, because getting there costs energy you don't have.

Why programmes fail here

Fibromyalgia doesn't move in a straight line. Most programmes assume it does.

A plan that only works on good weeks is not a plan.

  1. Built for steady weekly progress

Most rehabilitation plans add a little every week. The first flare breaks the schedule, and after two or three of those people stop going.

  2. Getting there spends the energy

An auto, a wait, a flight of stairs. By the time you are on the plinth, a meaningful share of the day's capacity is already gone.

  3. Having to justify it, again

Explaining a condition with no visible signs to someone running late is exhausting on its own, and it is often the reason people quietly stop.

What the treatment involves

Deliberately less than you think you can do.

  • Starting lower than expected

We begin well below your current capacity on purpose. Starting where you think you should be is the most common reason these programmes fail in week two.

  • Pacing

Spending energy on purpose instead of by accident, so a good day stops costing you the three that follow it.

  • Building tolerance slowly

Gentle strength and movement work, progressed in increments small enough that the next week still holds.

  • Symptom relief between sessions

Some people find the electrotherapy on the device eases symptoms enough to move more comfortably. Your physiotherapist sets it, and will tell you plainly if it isn't helping you.

This is not a cure and we will not describe it as one. Physiotherapy for fibromyalgia is about capacity: being able to do more of your day without paying for it afterwards. It works alongside whatever your doctor is managing, not instead of it.

What to expect

Slower than you'd like. That's the point.

  1. First 4–6 weeks

    Settle

Find the level you can repeat on a bad week, not a good one. Nothing is added until that level holds for a fortnight.

  2. Months 2–4

    Build

Small increases, held for weeks at a time. If a flare arrives, the plan steps back rather than pausing until you feel ready to face it.

  3. Onward

    Sustain

Fewer sessions, still supervised. The aim is that flares get shorter and take less away from you, not that they disappear.

Everyone's pace is different, and yours is set from what you can actually repeat. Your physiotherapist reviews it with you every four weeks and adjusts it with you, not at you.

What happens on a bad week

The plan gets lighter. Nothing gets cancelled.

On a flare week, sessions don't disappear. They shrink. You are not asked to justify it, and you don't lose your place. The equipment has usually shown your physiotherapist before you say anything.

Missing a week shouldn't mean starting again, and it shouldn't feel like failing.

A usual week as planned

  • Thu Rest
  • Fri Full session
  • Sat Light

A flare week same week, adjusted

  • Mon Light
  • Tue Rest
  • Wed Light
  • Thu Rest
  • Fri Light
  • Sat Rest
  • Full session
  • Reduced: movement only, no progression
  • Planned rest

Who would look after you

The same physiotherapist, so you only tell it once.

You keep one clinician for the whole of your treatment. No repeating your history, no starting from the beginning with someone who has just read your file. If it isn't working, tell us and we will change it.

Before you enquire

This isn't right for everyone, and we'll say so.

Usually a good fit

  • Diagnosed fibromyalgia, or widespread pain lasting more than three months
  • Doing less and less because of how you pay for it afterwards
  • Tried an exercise programme before and had to abandon it
  • Wanting supervision without travelling for it

See a doctor first

  • Widespread pain that has not yet been medically assessed
  • New symptoms: swelling, fever, weight loss, weakness
  • Anything a rheumatologist should rule out first

The things people ring up about.

It can, if it is progressed too fast, which is exactly why we start below what you think you can manage and hold there until it is repeatable. Some increase in symptoms while your body adjusts is common; a flare that takes days to recover from means the level was wrong and we reduce it. Your physiotherapist would rather move too slowly than lose you in week three.
